Are You Valentine ready with a Kissable Mouth?
What is Periodontal Disease and do you have it?
“gum disease” or Gingivitis is an item often misunderstood. What is this?
Generally when you see Periodontal Disease or Gingivitis it is gum disease. If you have not ever heard about it, here are some symptoms of gum disease.
When you brush your teeth do you notice some bleeding or some pink in the water that you spit
Do you have bad breathe? Even when you are careful never to eating foods that is common in creating bad breathe, there is still an odor and friends still tell you that you have bad breathe.
Check to see if your gums look puffy and there is some red along the edge of the gum and the teeth. When gums are healthy, look for a nice pink color. Your gums should not be painful to touch or to brush.
Generally this disease starts as a buildup of PLAQUE. After eating and when the food left on your teeth has not been flushed or brushed off, the bacteria that is left forms a white and very soft substance called Plaque. You can find plaque along the gum line or between your teeth. If you have teeth that are crowded or crooked, you can assume that there will be plaque in the harder to reach areas.
If not removed at this soft stage plaque becomes tartar. Now this is a very hard substance that sticks to your teeth and because it is so hard, can only be removed by your hygienist. That is the professional cleaning that is best done twice a year for most people. In the end if you practice healthy habits of brushing and flossing this disease would not develop.
Also important to remember that inflammation in the mouth carries bacteria that will travel to other parts of the body and therefore leads to now confirmed links to heart disease, diabetes, arthritis, pancreatic cancers etc.
In the end, a mouth without bad bacteria, definitely is more attractive. Kissing a clean fresh mouth is a much nicer thought and more fun.
